Wild Alaska

Birch and Blooms

I was born and raised in Alaska.  After attending The Art Institute of Boston where I studied photography and graphic design, I returned to Anchorage.

My Mom, Alice Countryman, came to Alaska in 1962 to teach school and started working with the Alaskan wild flowers soon after she arrived.  She taught me to balance and arrange the flowers when I was a child and we worked together for years creating new things.  Alice passed on in 1999 but her memory will live on in her flower arrangements and in her music.

Our work has been shown across the United States and at the International Trade Show in Tokyo, Japan.

The wild flowers and birch bark that I use in my creations are all native to Alaska, each piece is hand made and unique.  Flowers are hand colored to prevent fading, limited editions prints and note cards are printed in Alaska with vegetable based inks on recycled paper.

Photographs are all taken in Alaska by myself or my husband on his Geocaching adventures.

I love Alaska and enjoy creating art and jewelry from the beauty I see around me every day.

Sincerely,

Katy Countryman Grant
